Autodesk Forge

Autodesk is developing the framework for building the next generation of applications for design and engineering data.

The Autodesk® Forge platform is a set of cloud services that connects design, engineering, visualization, collaboration, production and operations workflows. With the convergence of how things are designed and made, the Forge platform provides both the framework and building blocks for the applications that will power the future of making things across a multitude of industries.

Forge takes components from Autodesk’s powerful library of software and delivers them as cloud-based building blocks for developers to extend or create their own new solutions. Think of it as Forge provides you with Legos – Instructions are up to you.

The opportunity

Forge APIs provide developers with new opportunities to create apps that center around data and meet the specific and rapidly evolving needs of the manufacturing, architecture, engineering and construction industries.

Until now, valuable information about how things are designed, made and used is generated, but not always connected.  Forge makes those connections.

Forge APIs you might consider for your project include the following. Click the “Learn More” links below for detailed API information and Step By Step Tutorials.

Data Management API

The Data Management API provides a unified and consistent way to access data across Autodesk® A360, Autodesk® Fusion 360™, and the Object Storage Service.  Learn more

Model Derivative API

The Model Derivative API enables users to represent and share their designs in different formats, as well as to extract valuable metadata. Learn more

Viewer (formerly part of the “View and Data API”) is a WebGL-based, JavaScript library for interactive 3D and 2D model rendering. 3D and 2D model data may come from a wide array of applications, such as Autodesk® AutoCAD®, Fusion 360, Revit®, BIM software, and many more. Learn more

Design Automation API

The Design Automation API, formerly known as the “AutoCAD I/O API”, provides the ability to run scripts on your design files, leveraging the scale of the Forge Platform to automate repetitive tasks. Learn more

The BIM 360™ API allows developers to create apps that integrate with the Autodesk BIM 360 platform to extend its capabilities in the construction ecosystem. Learn more

Fusion 360 Client API

Automate design tasks in Fusion 360 and connect Fusion 360 to other services Learn more

In addition to providing access to its powerful platform of web services Autodesk helps developers in a number of ways - from one-on-one support to forums, training, resources such as sample applications, blogs and worldwide events - and, if you are breaking new ground, funding. Our teams of experts are ready to help developers ramp up quickly.
